The Raven Progressive Matrices intelligence test is a nonverbal testing procedure that mobilizes a wide range of cognitive functions. The test consists of 5 series, each containing 12 geometric images, arranged in progressive order (i.e., the tasks become increasingly difficult). Each board contains one larger and one smaller image. A part of the larger image is missing, and the test subject must select the missing element from the smaller images shown. There is one correct solution for each task.
Nonverbal intelligence test
In nonverbal intelligence tests, observation skills and clear thinking are key factors. The tasks contain geometric symbols, and the missing element must be found during the test. To solve the problem (selecting the missing figure from the given images), the test subject must recognize how the symbols change horizontally and vertically and based on what system of relationships.
What does it measure?
This IQ test measures the ability to draw conclusions based on complex information, i.e., how well a person can understand stimuli and find connections between them. This is the essence of general intelligence, which is independent of language skills and educational attainment.
